Phase 1 – Matter, brutal and wild self-initiation

In this initial phase, we are at the level of matter, the physical body, a coarse, dense, and slow level, within linear time: past/present/future. It’s like the surface of the ocean with its tumultuous waves. Here, the focus is on purification (cleansing of the nervous and physical system, individual impurities).

The absence of rites of passage in the West, the transition from adolescence to adulthood, leads our teenagers to a form of wild initiation, either through drug use, video games, or social media. The result: adolescence crisis, loss of meaning, frequent anxieties, being disconnected from their bodies and emotions. In this series, Teddy invites us into his own wild and violent self-initiation during his adolescence through the use of various drugs, feeling lost and in search of confrontation with internal and external limits. He immerses us in his intimate experiences with sharp, on-the-spot pieces—a form of self-therapy through art.

“Aya” is a fake series credits film made by Teddy as part of his art studies in Belgium in 2005. The setting of this film is his office where he worked and found his inspiration.
